DEATH OF MRS. HALL, HOLME
One of the oldest inhabitants of Holme – and probably the oldest license holder in the county – died on Saturday in the person of Mrs. S. Hall, North Road, Holme, aged 85 years. Born at Crofton, Wakefield, she married Mr. Alfred Hall at Wakefield Parish Church (now Cathedral) and came to reside at the Station Hotel, Burton. Afterwards they left for the house where she died, and where she has resided over 55 years, keeping a grocer’s shop and holding an off licence. Her husband died 46 years ago. Mrs. Hall will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends and business people, sympathy with the relatives having been expressed from a wide area. Nine children mourn her death – six sons and three daughters. There are also 25 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
The funeral, which took place in the old portion of Holme Churchyard, on Tuesday, was conducted by the Rev. A. C. Sutcliffe, Burton in the absence of the Rev. H. C. Walker. The coffin was borne from the house to the Church, and from there to her final resting place by her six sons and two grandsons. The chief mourners were: Mr. and Mrs. J. Hall, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hall, Mr. Alfred Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hall, Mr. and Mrs. F. Hall, Mr. and Mrs. G. Hall (sons and daughters-in-law); Mrs. J. T. Bell, Mrs. A. Caton and Miss S. E.
